SPACE is a support group for parents of children with ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, or challenging behaviour. We meet monthly to chat, laugh, and listen as we support and encourage each other. We empower parents through choices, signposting and directing them to useful resources.
We meet monthly on the 3rd or 4th Wednesday morning for coffee at the offices of The King’s Church Chesham, from 10am – 12noon.
Our meetings are informal, and a safe, friendly, place to share some of the difficulties faced by families. Many have found it a lifeline as they share their stories in an accepting, non-judgemental atmosphere, and receive information and support. At the coffee mornings we usually have speakers, who bring specific knowledge on relevant topics. Parents are also able to bring their own ideas and solutions to help support each other. We also have some informal evening meetings. For details of our next meetings do check our website www.spacepage.co.uk.
We also have a library of relevant books, an Voicemail Helpline (07960 066632), and an email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) where people can ask for support with these special children in mind. Those who become members are invited to join us on Facebook.
The group began in 2005 while looking for support for several families. Those families, in turn, went on to give support to others. Some of the Committee and volunteers are still from The King’s Church Chesham, whilst several others who have joined us recently come from other churches locally and further afield, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the group.
We are always pleased to welcome new families to any of our meetings, as we know how difficult it can be caring for these children, and helping them to reach their full potential. If you would like to know more, don’t hesitate to contact us. More information can be found on our website: www.spacepage.co.uk.
