Sew Do It!
Sew Do It is a free community event – we share sewing tips and skills in the company of friendly people… with a cuppa and some cake!
It’s held once a month on a Saturday morning from 11am to 1pm at the church office. If you would like to sew, but don’t know where to begin, come along and have a go at something simple. Learn some basic skills like turning up a hem or sewing on a button or have a go at using a sewing machine. If you’ve got a sewing machine, but don’t know how to use it, bring it along and we’ll show you how. Would you like some advice about a sewing project or need some help with altering your clothes? We’ll lend a hand. We won’t do it for you, but hopefully we’ll show you how to do it yourself, and when you know how to do it, you’ll be able to show someone else!
It’s all about relearning and passing on the skills our mums and grandmums took for granted. This is not a formal sewing class, but we like to share knowledge and inspiration, and have a good natter at the same time. Even if you don’t need any help with your project, come and enjoy sewing in a congenial atmosphere of like-minded people.
Anyone is welcome, whether a complete beginner or a couture dressmaker.
Just bring your project along with you, a sewing machine if you have one, and come and join in. There is always a supply of threads, needles and pins etc, plus spare remnants of material to have a go with, but bring your own if you like.
There is no charge for the morning, but if you’d like to make a donation we give it to Workaid (www.workaid.org) for refurbishing sewing machines which are sent out to Africa to enable widows and refugees to make a living.
